Jacob has changed SOOOOO much since he turned three. He says the craziest things now. Example: I told him the other day that he needed to wash his hands more often, he asked why, I said because they were dirty and told him to look at his black fingernails, to which he replied,"maybe we should cut them off and buy new clean ones." And today during lunch I gave him a cereal straw with some milk and told him he couldn't have it until his sandwich was gone. I caught him trying to eat some of it and told him to put it down. He told me, "Mommy could you go lie down in your room? You are so tired." Stinker!! He is in love with everything He-Man, as we mentioned before, and I am making his costume again this year. He told me this morning that Daddy should be battle cat and that I need to make him a costume as well. I said that I can't make that big of a costume and he said "sure you can!" I am so glad that he has faith in me. I swear that kids change over night. He went from being a toddler to this big boy that I have to get to know all over again. He so wants to do things "for himself". A couple of nights ago I could hear him getting angry in the hall. I looked to see what was going on and he couldn't get his tee shirt off. I asked if I could help and he said no he could help himself. I sat there and watched and he told me to go away. When I check on him again a few minutes later he was still struggling and getting more angry. Well I finally helped him after he got his arm stuck through the neck of his shirt and boy was he mad that I helped. I really have a hard time being the Mom when I can't reason with them. But there was nothing I could do right after I helped him. I know I should just stand back and wait, but there is my problem, waiting!! He is so happy when he accomplishes something himself. I guess I will continue to search for patience.

what a cute picture! kids say the funniest things sometimes, thanks for sharing!
Oh boy... we have another Trenton in the making with his smart-alec comments and 'do-it-yourself' attitude. But at least he likes He-man and not pink. :)
I can't stand the waiting either. Ashleigh will insist on doing everything herself and it takes a hundred times longer than if I would help her. Now I just walk away and hope that it works out for her!
Your life sounds a bit like mine. This whole "letting them make their own choices" is a lot harder than I thought it would be . However, doesn't it seem like this is exactly where you always wanted to be?
Such a cute picture. He really is growing up. I think we all go through this stage of "letting me do it myself" Some time I still say let me do it myself, or "I'll do it myself." and I am not 3. Love that kid. Mom Shepherd
